Treating Acne Naturally With Diet And Other Treatments That Work

The main problem with most of the acne treatments and acne products is that not everyone reacts the same way to the same treatment; in other words what worked for one may not work for another. Because I'm a registered nurse and have come in contact with many acne patients, I've learned a lot over the years about acne, acne scars, acne treatments and treatments for other skin conditions. Living with acne can be very difficult, and it may be even more difficult to find just the right acne treatment for you.

The most commonly known types of pimples are whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne is the most common of all skin diseases. Baby acne is basically a rash seen on the cheeks, chin, and forehead of infants. Acne rosacea is a red rash seen predominantly on the face.

Experts usually don't agree on what causes acne. If you've heard that dirty skin causes acne, it doesn't - it's definitely not true. Doctors think certain factors might cause or contribute to acne including, but not only, hormone increases in teenage years, hormone changes in pregnancy, starting or stopping of birth control pills, heredity, medicines and greasy make-up.

When you wash your face use a very soft touch, taking care not to rub or scrub your skin too hard. Since the latest research indicates a connection between stress and acne, make a serious effort to cut down on stress any way that you can. For the best acne treatment, which has worked for many, apply (preferably organic) virgin coconut oil to the area daily; try it on a small test area for a day or two first.

If you wear make-up make sure to choose it very carefully; it should be free of any oils. Too many chemicals can strip your skin of its natural oil protection and the skin will overproduce oil to compensate for it, blocking your pores and causing even more acne. Treatment with raw organic apple cider vinegar will work better on your skin if it isn't already noticeably irritated from acne medicines, acne products or other failed treatment.

Try not to touch your affected skin to eliminate any possible contamination. One treatment method that some people have used is applying cornstarch, egg whites or milk of magnesia as a facial mask. It bears repeating, you want to be good to your delicate skin and never, never pop or squeeze a pimple no matter how tempting.

Besides an acne condition, if you also have eczema or dry skin, coconut oil will treat those skin conditions too. Raw apple cider vinegar application to the skin is a cheap, alternative acne treatment that has worked for many adults, teens and children with acne, zits, pimples, or other types of blemishes. Try applying a very thin layer of coconut oil and massaging it deep into the skin to heal and soothe the affected area.

It's easy to treat acne cheaply, simply, naturally, yet still very effectively, at home. Drinking a lot of pure, filtered water may be one of the most important things you can do today for your acne, thus working from the inside out.

In any case, no matter what skin or acne treatment you choose, whether it's chemical, drugs, alternative, or natural methods, changing your usual diet will be the best treatment you can do for your acne and you'll achieve overall good health in the process. Adding a lot of fresh, raw fruit to the diet has helped many people clear up their skin conditions; there are tons of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables. To cure yourself of acne, you need to correct the problems that are going on inside of your body that are causing the acne.

When your liver gets overloaded with toxins it will send the toxins out through your skin as well as your other organs of elimination. Some alternative doctors recommend eating a raw clove of garlic daily for acne; you can chop one up finely and add it to your daily salad!

Use olive oil with a tablespoon of very fresh flaxseed oil in your salads. Good nutrition will help your skin from the inside out. The next time you want to have a snack, instead of junk food, help your skin by having an apple, orange, peach, pear, banana, plum, berries or other fruit.

Eating foods with EFA's (essential fatty acids) are particularly important for people with dry skin or acne. Eat at least one or two organic apples a day while working to clear up your skin; apples are good for skin health. Make sure they're organic so you can eat pesticide-free skin (most of the apple pectin is in the skin), which also helps with constipation.

Be assured that scientists are constantly looking at new non-invasive ways to treat acne. Naturally you can't expect to get rid of your acne in just a few days; natural treatments take a little time to work; but if you are persistent, you'll get blemish-free skin and won't experience any of the dangerous side effects that you might find in commercial acne medicines or treatments. Don't give up - try everything you can until you get relief from your acne condition.

Natural acne products supply the skin with the essential and healthy ingredients it needs to fight off acne infections. Natural acne treatment can even enhance the circulation and the flow of the nutrients to the skin, shield the skin against impurities and toxins that can trigger acne, and it can aid to soothe and moisturize the skin for a healthy grow. Natural acne treatments help to cleanse the system, and results in clearer, more hydrated skin. Besides being effective, there are three additional reasons why natural acne treatments are most desirable: they have hardly any side effects, are easy on the pocket, and easy to make right in the privacy of your own home.

Natural Acne Treatments Have Minimal Side Effects

Natural acne treatments are a limitless and creative way to beat acne, get fantastic looking skin, and most importantly of all, control what you apply to your face. Some of the most common natural acne treatments have been used for centuries. New studies are showing that natural acne treatments are providing relief to acne sufferers all over the world. A number of natural acne treatments are available, do not require a prescription, and can also be rather effective. With literally no side effects, and the fact that you are in complete control, these natural acne treatments really are the best way to fight the war against acne.

Natural Acne Treatments Are Easy on the Pocket

The super news is that since the products for natural treatments are often found in the kitchen or the grocery store, the cost is a fraction of some of the very expensive and sometimes-ineffective prescription medications.

Natural Acne Treatments Are Easy to Make

When it comes to natural acne treatments, homemade treatments have to be among the most beneficial natural acne treatments that you can use. Homemade natural acne treatments are so easy to prepare and, not only do they help to fight against acne breakouts, but they also take care of blackheads and blemishes, helping to give your skin the smoother, healthier looking appearance we all desire. The best natural acne treatments are great because many can be taken internally as well as applied externally (topically).

To summarize the benefits of natural acne treatment, you can avoid ever having to make an appointment with a dermatologist, your body will profit from healthier eating, and you are not exposing your skin to harsh chemicals. Of course, there is usually a substantial amount of time from the beginning of the treatment until definite results are observed. Fortunately, there are plenty of natural acne treatments to choose from which will produce great results for many acne patients. Believe it or not, many home acne remedies give just as good results as prescription and over-the-counter medicines and they won't cost you hardly anything. So why not give home acne remedies a try? What have you got to lose?

Is That Acne On Your Back? Causes and Treatments for Back Acne

Back acne can be a very uncomfortable and unpleasant skin condition. As its name implies, it is acne that appears on the body, particularly the back, although it can also be found in other areas such as the shoulders, upper arms and even the buttocks.

Back acne can be as simple as a few pimples and whiteheads but it can also come in a more severe form that also includes blackheads, cysts and pustules. Back acne is not only unsightly, it can also be painful and later cause scarring, which tends to be permanent.

What causes back acne?

Essentially, that acne on your back is just acne and its cause is still unknown. What is known, however, is that back acne usually occurs in pubescent girls and boys, although it can also be found in adults. When young teens enter puberty, this is also the time when their sebaceous glands become active. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, the oil which our bodies naturally create.

This is a normal process. The problem begins when the body produces too much sebum. This clogs up the hair follicles and the pores, making the skin an ideal breeding ground for the bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. This bacteria causes a skin infection that produces redness and swelling. As a result, pimples appear. When they become enlarged, become filled with pus and liquid, multiply and produce lesions, you get acne on your back.

Who gets acne?

In the same manner as it is not fully understood why some people get acne while others don't, it is also not known why back acne occurs in some people while others remain pimple-free. However, some studies have shown that back acne tends to run in families so if some people in your family have back acne, that probably explains why you have it, too. Back acne also tends to appear in people who sweat profusely. It can also appear in women taking hormones.

Can tight or heavy clothing cause back acne?

There is no proof that certain clothing cause back acne, nor has a direct link between backpacks and back acne been established. However, these factors seem to contribute to excessive sweating, which exacerbates a back acne condition.

How do I treat back acne?

Body skin is a lot more resilient and tough compared to facial skin, but that is not an excuse to be rough on that acne on your back. The treatment for back acne may be slightly different but it is by no means less gentle.

Start with a sensible skin-cleansing regimen. Use an antibacterial soap or a specially formulated soap for acne to help prevent further infections and break outs. Shower on a regular basis and give extra care and attention to the affected area of the back. Thoroughly dry your skin with a clean towel.

Use an anti-acne product such as a topical cream containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Just be careful with using benzoyl peroxide because it has mild bleaching characteristics which might bleach the fabric of your clothes. Either wait for the ointment or gel to dry before putting on clothes or just wear something white.

If you engage in activities where you sweat excessively, make sure to take a shower immediately after. Always wear fresh, clean clothes and choose fabrics made with natural fibers. You should also wear fabrics that absorb moisture well to make sure that you keep perspiration away from your skin.

Some back acne treatments can dry the skin, especially those that exfoliate. When skin is too dry, it can also be prone to break outs. To protect your skin from excessive dryness, use non-comedogenic lotions or moisturizers.

Other treatments

Back acne is more difficult to treat because it is spread across a much wider area. If using a topical cream seems impractical and ineffective, you might want to ask your doctors for alternative solutions. Back acne may also be treated with topical antibiotics, injections, oral contraceptives and laser therapy. Always ask for your doctor's recommendation before using another form of treatment to ensure you do not aggravate your skin's condition.

If scarring has occurred, don't worry. There are surgical and cosmetic means with which to help improve your skin's appearance. Procedures such as laser therapy, excision and skin needling are just a few options you can ask your doctor about to help get rid of that acne on your back.

What about that backpack?

If you find that carrying a backpack seems to aggravate your back acne condition, use another means with which to carry stuff around. You can either wait until that acne on your back clears and use that backpack again or you can give it up altogether.

Acne Treatments Review

Effective

One of the effective homemade acne facial treatments is cleansing the facial skin regularly using cotton dipped in alcohol. A Kampo treatment for acne, the treatment called: Keigai-rengyo-to (TJ-50), has proven effective in some cases.

Using orange peel has known to be very effective on acne. Cleaning the skin with lemon is an effective acne treatment. Many adults have found that simply using benzoyl peroxide is an effective adult acne cure.

Benzoyl peroxide - Effective in controlling excess oil and has an antibiotic that fights the bacteria that causes acne. And one can only say that how effective it will be for you will largely depend on the type of acne you have.

Topical Retinoids- retinoids are Vitamin A derivatives and are very effective in treatment of mild to moderate acne. This is terrific news for acne sufferers in search of an effective home treatment for acne.

A deeper and much more effective acne treatment is a TCA peel. From what I can gather, it is getting more effective and efficient as technology allows. Laser therapy is often effective for dealing with acne scarring.

Products

A woman that is pregnant will have to look at alternative safe skin programs, and natural skin products would be a place to start. There are several products that can be the best acne treatments depending on your situation. Not all acne products will be the best acne treatments for you.

Products containing unevaluated substances are best avoided. The EWG has reviewed scientific studies and performed their own independent laboratory tests to expose health threats from skin care products sold in the United States. Different treatments, medicines, and products have been produced to help control and eliminate this skin disorder.

There are also many different products that use these treatments in one way or another. While the medical community does not have a cure for severe acne, there are a variety of products that will subdue moderate cases of acne and provide the sufferer with clear skin once again. There are a variety of products that are designed to get rid of or reduce acne.

Dairy products such as milk and cheese can contribute to the formation of acne. If you're still breaking-out after you made the necessary internal changes, then your condition is far more serious, and you must take the next step by taking part in a complete skin treatment process with proper acne products that work jointly together.

Natural

Herbal solutions help by cutting down on toxicity levels in the body as well as work as a natural anti-inflammatory for skin lesions. What's so unique about this form of acne treatment is that it is made of all natural ingredients. You can recreate your very own effective acne treatments by putting these together in your own natural facial cleaner, making a product that can effectively treat your acne in a natural and gentle way.

Try all avenues, from topical solutions to oral medications to the best natural acne treatments around, because you will eventually find the treatment that works best for you. Whatever you call it, natural treatment is one of the most resorted forms of therapeutic means for many debilitating diseases.

If you are really serious about treating acne and really eliminating it at it's source (ie the hormones that cause acne), then you owe it to yourself to try a natural acne hormone treatment which is specifically designed to equalize hormone imbalance and purify the skin from the inside out using special blends of herbs, botanicals, and/or natural compounds such as Vitamin E and Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Alternative

Most of the alternative acne treatment mainly tries to eliminate the bacteria responsible for acne. Another popular alternative acne treatment is the application of the paste made of strawberry leaves. A simple search on Google for acne alternative treatments brings up almost 1,500,000 sites to choose from.

If you or someone you know suffers from acne then you know how many so called acne alternative treatments there are floating around that claim to cure your problematic acne, zits and skin blemishes. There is great debate over whether or not these alternative treatments for acne work and if they are safe. This is precisely why herbal acne treatments are coming on strong and don't show any signs of slowing down in the world of acne treatment and alternative medicine.

Herbal acne treatments are now some of the most sought after alternative acne remedies on the market today. Generally alternative treatments are not regulated by the FDA and hence you will not receive much guidance from medical doctors on their use. Every day numerous acne suffers turn to alternative methods to treat their acne.

If you already have all your acne information from the doctor, and decide to use alternative products, rather than go with prescription antibiotics due to allergies, or you just don't want to go that route, then your next step is to find a skin treatment program that starts from the inside out, and outside in method.

A New Look at Natural Acne Treatments

There's a confusing array of product claims and treatment methods for acne that make it difficult for acne sufferers to determine their best course of action. The fact that there are several forms of acne, including cystic acne and the common acne vulgaris, complicates the picture. While the medical community does not have a cure for severe acne, there are a variety of products that will subdue moderate cases of acne and provide the sufferer with clear skin once again. Among these effective products are natural acne treatments that provide viable alternatives to the use of antibiotic medicines and ointments.

Natural remedies are derived from plants that have been used for generations because of their medicinal properties. The prestigious National Institutes of Health recently formed the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Health to evaluate the efficacy of herbal remedies by funding controlled scientific studies. Herbal remedies can be effective natural acne treatments.

Antibiotics are frequently prescribed for acne because there is a known bacterial component to cases of acne but certain herbs like Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolio) have known antibacterial properties as well. A soap made from Echinacea and other herbal ingredients is a viable antibiotic facial cleanser that helps fight and clear acne. This type of soap is also used for eczema, psoriasis, and acne rosacea. Scientific studies show that Echinacea helps the body provide the proper enzymes at the cellular level to protect cells against invasion by bacteria. Echinacea's ability to aid in wound healing is beneficial not only for acne but also for insect bites and burns.

Echinacea is the hardy purple coneflower that is a staple of roadside plantings and home gardens. A more exotic and expensive herbal acne treatment is tea tree oil. There are over 300 species of tea tree but only one species (Melaleuca Alteronifolia) found in New South Wales, Australia is known to have antibacterial properties.

What is Tea Tree Oil?

Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tree and is four to five times stronger than household disinfectants in killing bacteria. At the same time, tea tree oil is gentle to the skin. Tea tree oil is effective in killing the bacteria even in pus and will cause the body to eliminate pus from inside a pimple.

Tea tree oil also acts as a mild local anesthetic which reduces discomfort and also helps to eliminate the red irritation from the skin, improving appearance and reducing acne social problems. Tea tree oil is readily available from herbal suppliers and is simply applied to the affected area with a Q-tip. Tea tree oil is used sparingly.

Witch hazel is not just a brand name but an actual herb (Hamamelis virginiana) that is still recommended as a topical astringent and natural acne remedy. When using these topical acne treatments it is important to be gentle. While it seems to make sense to attempt to vigorously scrub away the offending acne, both medical doctors and herbalists recommend a gentle face washing with even just the fingers as the best approach. Scrubbing merely dries the skin and causes it to produce more oils that are implicated as one of the causes of acne. Don't over-wash either; specialists recommend washing the face just twice a day.

Along with topical products, herbal dietary supplements can be beneficial as a natural acne treatment as well. Burdock root (Arctium lappa) has long been used to treat boils and abscesses and is an acne treatment. One of the reported properties of burdock root is that it will bring problem-causing agents out of the bloodstream, thus potentially making a condition seem to worsen rather than improve. However, the theory behind its use states that it is simply eliminating toxic elements from the body and providing healing properties.

When used as an acne treatment, herbalists recommend that topical burdock root be applied as well as taking a supplement that contains burdock. Burdock is typically combined with dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale) and golden seal root (Hydrastis Canadensis). Golden seal root was once used to prevent pitting of the skin caused by smallpox. Herbalists also recommend red clover (Trifolium pratense). All of these ingredients are implicated in improving skin conditions. Be sure to take these supplements only in the dosage indicated by the manufacturer or your herbalist.

Diet plays an important role in overall health and maintenance of healthy skin. A balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits provides the necessary vitamins and minerals to support clear skin. A diet containing lots of vitamin A may lower sebum production and excessive sebum is one of the contributing causes of acne. The various B vitamins, especially vitamin B-6, can be beneficial as it is needed for proper metabolism of steroid hormones and sexual hormones are implicated in acne. Zinc is promoted as a cure for acne but there seem to be as many studies against zinc supplements as there are ones that promote zinc as an acne treatment. These vitamins are available as supplements but again, more isn't always better; follow label dosing instructions.

There are plenty of old wives tales surrounding diet and acne outbreaks. Chocolate and fried foods have long been blamed for acne but there is no evidence to support this. However, the link between acne and dairy products is being subjected to scientific studies. A study published in the medical journal Dermatology in early 2005 found a link between teen acne and consumption of dairy products. For those whose acne is aggravated by dairy consumption, eliminating dairy products promotes clear skin. Another misconception is that acne is caused by dirt because the pores are clogged. Thinking that dirt is a cause of acne prompts sufferers to possibly over-wash the face and further aggravate the acne condition. Wearing make-up doesn't cause acne either. Look for modern cosmetics that are:

non-comedogenic (won't clog pores)
oil-free (water-based)
hypoallergenic (no added fragrance)

Acne isn't just a teen-age condition and adults suffer from acne as well. The natural acne remedies have provided relief from acne symptoms for people of all ages.

Acne Treatments That Don't Work

The majority of acne products don't work. Every month, more and more companies decide selling acne products to acne sufferers is very profitable, so they quickly come up with a product, mix a few chemicals, add a little benzyl peroxide, and label the product as a guaranteed cure to acne.

It's true. Acne treatment companies are making a killing, selling us acne suffers promising products that don't work. More and more of these come up each day hoping to earn a shilling from the pot. Acne suffers are so vulnerable, because we are constantly desperately searching for the latest acne treatment products that work.

So, how do these companies do it? The most common approach is to take Proactive, remake their three-step treatment, and market it as a different brand and label the treatment as "better than Proactive." We've all seen this common marketing scheme. Other companies come along, take a few two dollar vitamins here and there, place them into a bottle, and market the pills as "kills acne inside out," and they sell it for forty dollars. These acne products have very low success rates and have come to dominate the acne treatment market. Affiliates are promoting these rip-off products hoping to earn a share from the million dollar pot - and guess what? These affiliates never suffered from acne in their lifetime and they're recommending us acne treatments.

There are a few e-books (digital "books" emailed to you) out there today which also claim to cure acne. These authors claim that if you detoxicate your body for three days (or in essence, starve yourself for three days), you'll be completely acne free. All you need to do is to eat apples and drink many glasses of water everyday, and you'll be free of acne. This is a very promising statement, but in reality, starving yourself for three days doesn't equal becoming acne free. Your acne will probably slightly diminish, but it will come right back after you start eating again. Acne is somewhat related to diet, but to completely cure acne requires a consistent healthy diet kept over a period of a year. Definitely not three days.

Almost, not all, of the acne products claiming to treat your acne inside out "naturally" don't work. They send you a load of vitamins and foreign herbs which may smell nice, but they are just giving a placebo effect - they make the skin healthy and soft, but do not treat acne. Their success rates are very low, and they treat only the mildest of mild acne situations if they actually work. It's obvious why these treatments do not work - they are vitamins, not acne treatments.

An effective acne treatment is one that:

#1: Keeps pores clean - clogged pores lead to acne

#2: Kills skin bacteria - bacteria causes inflammation in acne, which leads to moderate/severe acne

#3: Solves the problem inside out - no, it's definitely not vitamins and herbs

Thankfully, each year a decent acne treatment does get produced which involved years of research. Electronic acne treatments have taken a leap over acne creams and medications - these devices took years of research to perfect. Zeno and blue light therapy (light bulb) are both highly researched devices that are commonly used to treat acne.

The main purpose of electronic devices out there today is to kill the bacteria that causes inflammation in acne. Bacteria often get trapped in the pore, which provides a favorable location for the bacteria to reproduce. This causes inflammation in the pimple. By killing off the bacteria, this prevents the acne from getting worse, allowing the pimple to quickly heal when the pore is clean again.

Why should you use electronic devices when acne creams "do the same thing?" Benzyl peroxide in acne treatments should kill bacteria, but after applying benzyl peroxide to the face for a few months, the bacteria that causes inflammation in acne start to resist it. By using blue light therapy or Zeno, you can provide an uninhabitable environment for the bacteria, specifically p.-acne, which kills 99.9% of the bacteria within a week. Benzyl peroxide's effectiveness is never this high.

There are a few topicals currently on the market that doesn't use benzyl peroxide to kill the acne causing bacteria. These products are more worthwhile to purchase, and if these acne treatments help treat your acne, they will work for much longer than any benzyl peroxide product out there.

Overall, you just shouldn't try out new acne treatments that nobody has used. There are no new miracle acne treatments being produced, so don't get your hopes up. Be sure to research the chemicals used in acne products, and make sure the chemicals in your acne treatments aren't skin irritants - these lead to further breakouts.
